Lyceum of Hellenic College of Thessaloniki celebrated<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 World<\/span><\/span> Poetry Day 2023 by <\/span><\/span>gifting and creating poems in the context of the initiative “Gift a poem<\/span><\/span>“.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The activities of Hellenic college of Thessaloniki’s students serve the role and real meaning of poetry, connecting with real life and promoting their<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 creativity<\/span><\/span>by using imagination and empathy. <\/span><\/span>The<\/span><\/span> activities<\/span><\/span> and<\/span><\/span>their<\/span><\/span> purposes<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>are<\/span><\/span> the<\/span><\/span> following<\/span><\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Poetry unites people and knows no borders and no discrimination.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

It can help people improve their understanding of others and realize that we are all equal. Our student\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Athina<\/span><\/span>Mavrika<\/span><\/span>\u00a0celebrated World Poetry Day by gifting the poem\u00a0<\/span><\/span>“<\/span><\/span>Like you<\/span><\/span>” by <\/span><\/span>Apostolis<\/span><\/span> Zymbragakis<\/span><\/span> to the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Association of Disabled People “<\/span><\/span>Elpida<\/span><\/span>“.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(<\/span><\/span>Teacher <\/span><\/span>Vasiliki<\/span><\/span> Kontogogou<\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2. Poetry, combining speech, soul, culture, and freedom of man,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 manages<\/span><\/span> to raise our spirit and promotes moral and universal values. It promotes intercultural dialogue in youth and as a means of cultural diplomacy can cultivate multiculturalism and create strong linkages among people worldwide building bridges and not walls.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Poetry as an educational tool contributes to the socio-emotional development of people, enabling them to face the challenges of the digital era. In transformative education, it leads to the humanistic approach of technology and of sciences in general for a sustainable future, where students can be empowered and “agents of change”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our students\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Antoniou Georgia\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Nickolaos<\/span><\/span>Tsironis<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>depicted their vision for the contribution of UNESCO\u00a0 in transforming the lives of children and were motivated by the initiative of UNESCO “Gift a poem” to create poetry presenting its significant power.\u00a0 Their 3 poems entitled: “<\/span><\/span>Educational Linkages”, “A hidden hero: UNESCO”,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>“Empower the Future<\/span><\/span>” are dedicated to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>A<\/span><\/span>SPnet<\/span><\/span> UNESCO (Greece) for the 70<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Anniversary.<\/span><\/span> (Teacher Anastasia <\/span><\/span>Psallida<\/span><\/span>)<\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3. This initiative gave also a great opportunity to a group of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>students o<\/span><\/span>f a class during the lesson\u00a0of Greek L<\/span><\/span>iterature<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to<\/span><\/span> think about the meaning of education in their life and its huge imprint. They wonder and express their views about quality education and learning and what it must offer according to them, searching in<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 literature’s<\/span><\/span> books poems that reflect their vision. They wrote down, analyzed and discussed the lines that had an impact on them.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n

It was the most interesting and fruitful “dialogue” of the year among young people<\/span><\/span>, in a class of 21<\/span><\/span>st<\/span><\/span> century facing all these global, social and digital challenges. The students <\/span><\/span>had been inspired <\/span><\/span>through the words of K. <\/span><\/span>Kavafis<\/span><\/span>, B. <\/span><\/span>Breht<\/span><\/span>, B. Borges, A. <\/span><\/span>Zymvragakis<\/span><\/span> by the universal values of freedom,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0human<\/span><\/span> dignity, humanism, friendship <\/span><\/span>aiming at a <\/span><\/span>meaningful knowledge, active democratic participation and <\/span><\/span>awareness…<\/span><\/span> The motivation of students was admirable and the most important for us\u2026without using technology\u2026 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It was a great example for our students to understand that the Futures of Education needs transformation and humanistic tradition\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It was dedicated to all the students and the people <\/span><\/span>involved \u00a0in<\/span><\/span> education on the occasion of <\/span><\/span>ASPnet<\/span><\/span>UNESCO 70 Anniversary.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
